Smith, who was 66 years old in 2021, is a self-professed Marxist and PhD who taught government for many years at the two year College of the Mainland in Texas City. He was the president of the employee union at the college. Smith was fired from his professorship in 2013 for insubordination. Many students and professors at the college protested against his tenure grant in 2002. Smith wrote an article for the Galveston newspaper in 2018 claiming Trump was mentally unstable and must be stopped. He's an illegal immigration advocate and participated in a blockade of Houston's ICE office. He also protested at a memorial service for the victims of violence committed by illegal aliens that was attended by President Trump.
